Proverbs 26:13-16
The lazy man says, “There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion is in the streets!†14 As a door turns on its hinges, so does the lazy man on his bed. 15 The lazy man buries his hand in the bowl; It wearies him to bring it back to his mouth. 16 The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly.
God created the world and all that is in it in six days. The bible says on the seventh day He rested. Jesus tells us later, “My Father works, and I workâ€. That puts the scripture in proper context, so some do not think after creating the world God went to sleep. God is still at work in His creation, with His creation and for His creation. Did not Jesus say that the harvest is plenteous, but the laborers are few? He means that there are not enough people available to do the work. What could be the reason? Are they tired? Are they weak? Are they lazy, or they simply do not care?
Hard work is a spiritual principle. Anyone who adopts this principle will yield fruit in due season. There is no one who works hard and becomes poor. What brings poverty usually is laziness. Today’s passage highlights some of the attitudes of lazy people. Meditate carefully on the passage and identify those attitudes. For each one you identify, pray them out of your life and pray that none of them will find a place back into your heart.
Every man has been endowed by God for hard work. One factor that has the power to prevent this from happening is the attitude of laziness. When you are lazy, the devil pays no attention to you because he already has you captive. Get up, shake yourself of all laziness and become the industrious person God created you to be.
Prayer
1. Thank God for creating you as an industrious person, fully capable of prospering in this life.
2. Pray to free yourself from all tendencies of laziness that wants to push you into poverty.
3. Father, help me work like you do to fulfill Your purpose on earth.
Declarations
I declare that My Father works, and I work. I simply follow Jesus’ example, His words. I declare by divine authority that laziness shall never be prevail over me nor in my offspring. Hard work does not kill. Therefore, I declare by divine authority, I increase my passion to work hard while at the same time driving any temptations to be lazy far from my life in the name of Jesus.
