Terrorism is a pre-determined, deliberate use of violence that is targeted against civilians(unarmed persons) in other to achieve their Political Agenda( nationalistic, socioeconomic, ideological, religious), etc.
Political Agenda such as nationalistic focuses on the nation, ethnic, or religious or other identifying group and feeling among members as oppressed or denied of right, especially rights accorded to others.
Socio-economic also serves as a political agenda through which terrorist groups administer terror on innocent civilians. It is seen as the government's inadequacy to provide socio-economic opportunities to the less privileged which in turn makes them feel neglected and denied.
Ideological, an adjective that describes political, cultural, or religious beliefs that a person agrees to stand with or support. It may be negative or positive only to feel accepted and part of the movement.(ideology)
Religion is said to be the opium of the masses, which means religion influences and controls the majority of human decisions. Most terrorist groups are of the belief that engaging in such terror acts will clean them from their wrong deeds and will be given virgins in heaven. Which makes them cleans in administering terror to innocent civilians.
Six Elements of Terrorism
1. The use of Violence
2. By an organised group
3. To achieve political objectives
4. Directed against innocent civilians
5. Whiles a government can be either a perpetrator of violence or the target, it is considered an act of Terrorism if one or both actors is not a government
6. Terrorism is a weapon of the weak.
